Inquiry into train mishap to begin soon: Sandhu

The Commissioner of Railway Safety would begin an inquiry within a day or two into the derailment of the New Delhi-Patna Shramjeevi Express near Jaunpur in Uttar Pradesh on Sunday in which 12 people were killed and 49 injured.

A notification on the inquiry is expected to be issued on Monday, Northern Railway's chief PRO Devender Sandhu said in Delhi.

He said all aspects, including the possibility of sabotage, would be looked into during the probe.

"Fish plates have been found lying near the track in such a condition, which does not indicate that the derailment was an innocuous accident," Sandhu said.

Prima-facie, sabotage appeared to be the cause of the mishap as a preliminary enquiry had found nothing wrong with the track or the locomotive, he said.
