Yasin Malik's judicial remand extended

The judicial remand of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) supremo Yasin Malik, arrested under provisions of the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) in connection with the seizure of $100,000 allegedly meant for him, was on Thursday extended by 15 days by a Jammu court.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Suresh Kumar passed the orders extending Malik's remand.

Malik's counsel submitted that the JKLF leader deserves to be enlarged on bail as the police investigation has not thrown up anything against him.

However, the CJM refused to grant bail saying that the investigation is under progress.

However, acting on Malik's complaint, the judge directed the authorities to strictly adhere to the directions and recommendations of the medical board and submit a compliance report to the court.

At the time of his arrest, Malik had told authorities that he is not keeping good health.

Malik was arrested under section 3/6 of POTA on March 25 following the seizure of $100,000 from two persons at Kud on the Jammu-Srinagar national highway on March 24.

The duo told the police that the amount was meant for Malik, on whose behalf they had gone to Kathmandu in Nepal to collect the funds from one Aftab, an All Party Hurriyat Conference leader based in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
