Gujarat govt files caveat over transfer row

The Gujarat government has filed a caveat in the Central Administrative Tribunal, urging it not to give any ad interim or interim relief to the Indian Police Service officers, whose recent transfers have stirred up a controversy, in case they decide to challenge their shifting.

The state government last week transferred and promoted 27 police officers, but the shifting of some of the IPS officers, who had performed their duties well to contain mob violence in their respective districts has snowballed into a major controversy.

The caveat filed by the government pleader Arun Oza on Tuesday said that in view of the 'factually wrong publicity' to the transfers, 'the opponents (IPS officials)' might approach the CAT praying for an interim relief.

The plea said that in such a situation the CAT should not give any ad interim or interim relief to the 'opponents' without hearing the state government, according to CAT sources.

So far, no IPS officer or the IPS Association has filed any petition in CAT challenging the transfers, the sources added.

"There is no question of CAT issuing notices to anyone at this stage as the affected parties have not approached the tribunal with any original applications," the sources said.
