Two killed, 20 injured in grenade explosion in Srinagar

Two persons, including a woman, were killed and 20 others, nine of them security personnel, injured, when militants lobbed a powerful grenade near a security picket in downtown Srinagar on Saturday afternoon, official sources said.

Militants lobbed the grenade towards a BSF picket in busy Habbakadal chowk, when the BSF personnel were busy repairing the picket, the sources said.

The sources said that the grenade missed the target exploded outside the picket, killing a civilian and wounding 20 others, including nine BSF personnel.

The entire area was immediately cordoned off and search operations are being conducted, the sources said.

The injured persons were taken to a hospital, where the critically wounded woman succumbed to her injuries.

The condition of four more persons including three BSF personnel was stated to be 'serious', the sources said.

At least 52 people were injured in two grenade explosions triggered by militants in South Kashmir on Saturday.
