India, Bangladesh discuss border issues

A three-day Border Coordination Conference of India and Bangladesh in Dhaka, which began on Saturday, discussed killings of each others' nationals by security forces and illegal entry of citizens from both sides.

Border Security Force Director General Gurbachan Singh Jagat led a 12-member team for talks with Bangladesh Rifles Director General Rezakul Haider and his 20-member team.

This was the first time that senior officials of the two forces met after the bloody skirmishes of last year, which left 16 BSF and three BDR men dead.

The other issues taken up during the meeting included extradition of Bangladeshi miscreants from India, trafficking of children and women and smuggling of arms and narcotics.

The meeting will conclude on Monday.

The Dhaka meeting would be followed by the India-Bangladesh Joint Boundary Working Group meet scheduled to be held in New Delhi on March 26 and 27.
