Police misleading media: Jagat Singh's lawyer

Onkar Singh in New Delhi

Noted criminal lawyer and Rajya Sabha member R K Anand on Tuesday accused the Delhi police of deliberately misleading the media about the mysterious death of Natasha Singh, estranged daughter-in-law of former Union external affairs minister K Natwar Singh.

Speaking to newspersons after her funeral at the Lodhi Road crematorium, Anand claimed that Natasha's was a clear case of suicide.

"I don't know why the police told the media that there were bullet marks on her body soon after it was discovered on Sunday morning (at the Hyatt Regency hotel)."

"The moment my client Jagat Singh (Natasha's husband) told me about the incident, I could straight away tell that it was a case of suicide. There is nothing more to it," he said.

However, the police have not taken cognizance of Anand's claims and are continuing with their investigation.

The Delhi police on Tuesday summoned a few friends of the couple Natasha for questioning.

"I can't reveal their names, but they are common friends of the couple," a police officer said.

Some more persons are likely to be examined in next few days, he added.

No one has been detained in connection with the case so far, the police said.

The police again tried to recreate the likely sequence of events leading to Natasha's death by dropping life-size dummies from various parts of the hotel.

The police was tightlipped about the outcome of this exercise.
