Two rounds fired in Baroda to disperse mob

Police on Saturday fired two rounds to disperse a mob, which pelted stones at a convoy carrying army and RAF personnel, in a curfew-bound area near Baroda, police sources said.

The incident occurred at Mehtavadi under Karelibagh police station, they said.

No injuries were reported in the incident, they said,

Police also lobbed teargas shells in the Salatvada area on Saturday evening to disperse a group of women protesting the arrest of some persons in connection with violation of curfew orders.

In Baroda, army and RAF personnel staged a flag march for the second consecutive day.

The Chhotaudaipur and Dabhoi areas remained peaceful with no reports of any untoward incident, police said.

Army and BSF men, meanwhile, continued to stage flag marches in the area, they said.

Meanwhile, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has been given Z-plus security cover in view of the continuing communal tension in the state.

Security has been strengthened for some other VHP and Bajrang Dal leaders too.

A meeting of intelligence agencies in Gandhi Nagar reviewed the security for all top state leaders on Friday and a list of VVIPs who face a threat to their lives was drawn up at this meeting.
