VHP, Bajrang Dal activists ransack Orissa assembly

Several hundred Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal activists stormed the Orissa Assembly on Saturday and ransacked a part of the complex. They were protesting against remarks critical of the two organisations made by some members of the House on Friday.

Stunned security personnel looked on helplessly as the protesters chanting 'Jai Sri Ram' and 'Naveen Patnaik murdabad' forced their way into the assembly complex through the main gate.

They smashed window panes, broke flower pots and wrenched out name plates of several ministers in the assembly library complex.

A number of fire extinguishers were pulled out of the walls and thrown into the garden.

The protesters had a free run of the assembly for over 20 minutes.
