Stray incidents of violence marked Friday's strike in the Kashmir valley called to protest against the alleged controversial remarks of BJP MP Vinay Katiyar regarding the holy relic housed in the historic Hazratbal shrine in Srinagar.
Student associations had called the strike, which was complete in the state capital and other major towns with government schools, banks, and government offices downing shutters.
Only a few vehicles were plying on the streets and security was tight.
In some parts of Srinagar, police used tear gas and batons to disperse stone pelting youth.
A report from the north Kashmir town of Baramulla said several hundred slogan-shouting persons tried to take out a procession forcing the police to use tear gas to disperse the protestors.
Meanwhile, the death toll in Thursday's grenade explosion in Pulwama has gone up to four with one more critically wounded boy succumbing to his injuries.
Police said the condition of seven more injured persons continued to be critical.
