VHP, Bajrang Dal plan Ram dhun processions in Gujarat

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad and its militant arm, the Bajrang Dal, on Friday launched multiple programmes in Gujarat to coincide with the shila dan in Ayodhya.

The progammes would include chanting of mantras and religious assemblies all over the state. However, senior Bajrang Dal leaders indicated that none of these would be public in nature.

In Godhra, where over 50 kar sevaks returning from the disputed site in Ayodhya were set ablaze in a railway bogie by a mob, Hindus would congregate at the Ram Lalla temple for a prayer session.

In most parts of the town, shops and business establishments remained closed and vehicular traffic was thin.

In Dahod, prayers would be held in the afternoon at Vaidyanath temple followed by a Sankirtan Yatra.

Ahmedabad too is tense. Hindu organisations have put up public notices urging the community to perform prayers and blow conch shells for the success of the shila dan programme in Ayodhya.

The VHP will perform a puja at its headquarters at Paldi later in the day.
