Ten more paramilitary companies in Ayodhya

Ten more companies of the Central Reserve Police Force and Provincial Armed Constabulary will be deployed in Ayodhya to beef up security, Uttar Pradesh Principal Secretary (Home) Naresh Dayal said on Wednesday.

The move comes in the wake of the Supreme Court's directive to maintain status quo at the acquired site in the temple town.

Already 85 companies of paramilitary forces and police from Faizabad and other neighbouring districts are deployed in Ayodhya. With Wednesday's reinforcement, the number of personnel will cross the 10,000 mark. In addition, the army is also on alert.

"The Supreme Court order will be strictly implemented. We hope that the situation improves and the court's directive is accepted and honoured by one and all," Dayal said.

Following instructions from Governor Vishnukant Shastri, all districts have been asked to be on guard, he said

The principal secretary said while nobody will be stopped from having a darshan at the makeshift temple, not even one shila (carved stone) will be allowed to be taken inside the acquired land

Asked about the difficulties being faced by the local residents in the wake of the tight security restrictions, he said the state government is taking number of steps to ensure that they have no problems.

"We are ensuring that there is no shortage of essential commodities such as LPG cylinders, petroleum products, eatables and vegetables," Dayal said.
