UP administration asks Centre to deploy
Army in Ayodhya

With less than a week to go for the proposed March 15 puja on the undisputed land in Ayodhya, the Uttar Pradesh administration has asked the Centre to deploy army in the town.

"We have received a written request from the UP administration for deployment of army in Faizabad," Defence Minister George Fernandes said in New Delhi.

He said the Centre was considering the request and a decision would be taken keeping in view the present army mobilisation on the borders.

"For the past few days we were getting telephonic requests from the Faizabad district administration. But since last night the requests have become intense" Fernandes said.
