Five militants killed near Vaishnodevi in J&K

Five militants suspected to be of the Laskhar-e-Tayiba (LeT) were killed on Friday in an encounter with security forces at a village, five km from the Vaishnodevi shrine in Jammu region, police said.

Weapons and grenades were seized from the slain militants after the encounter in Khensal village in which one policeman was injured, according to the Director General of Jammu and Kashmir Police A K Suri.

The encounter ended around 1630 hours, he said.

Suri said the shrine perched on the Trikuta hills and the 14 km road route linking it with Katra town below are safe.

"There is no danger to the pilgrims visiting Vaishnodevi," he said pointing out that the route taken by pilgrims was five km away from the scene of the encounter.
