Gujarat violence anti-Muslim: CPI-ML

Anand Mohan Sahay in Patna

The Communist Party of India-Marxist/Leninist termed the Gujarat communal violence as 'anti-Muslim cleansing operation by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad'.

The CPI-ML general secretary Dipankar Bhattacharya said, "The cleansing operation was aimed to finish the (Muslim) community by killing them and burning their properties."

"There is little doubt that the operation by VHP was supported and backed by Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi," Bhattacharya said.

He also alleged that the Union government led by BJP was also responsible for the communal violence in Gujarat.

"The Union Home Minister L K Advani acted indifferently, that is why we are demanding that he should be replaced also," he said.

Bhattacharya, who led a six-member team to Ahmedabad, claimed that his team was the first to reach Ahmedabad.

"We have seen unbelievable pain and agony of people from close quarters," he said.

He said that the CPI-ML will organise 'Save Gujarat, Save India' day on March 9 and demand the immediate dismissal of the Narendra Modi government, resignation of Home Minister L K Advani and ban on VHP and Bajrang Dal.

He said that contrary to the Gujarat government's claims, it is estimated that the death toll is much more than 600.
