Shabir Shah asks Centre to restart dialogue with Kashmiris

Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party president Shabir Ahmed Shah on Thursday said that the Centre should pick up the thread and restart the broken dialogue with Kashmiris to resolve the vexed Kashmir issue.

"We will be happy if New Delhi shows seriousness and restarts the dialogue process, which it abandoned on its own despite nominating K C Pant as its interlocutor," Shah told a two-member British delegation, headed by First Secretary in the British High Commission David Kuhri.

Giving details of the meeting, Shah said he informed the delegation about the steps taken by his party to find a peaceful solution to the Kashmir issue.

"We believe in democracy and negotiations and want India and Pakistan to resolve the problem peacefully to pave way for everlasting peace in the sub-continent," he said.

Asked by the delegation about participation of his party in the coming assembly polls, Shah said, "The election looks a futile exercise till the main issue is resolved and the situation improves. The need of the hour is to resolve Kashmir issue respecting the wishes of the people of India, Pakistan and Jammu and Kashmir."
