Rajya Sabha MP's son confesses to murder

Vikas Yadav, the son of Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament D P Yadav, and his cousin Vishal confessed to having abducted and murdered Nitish Katara, Uttar Pradesh police said on Friday.

Katara, a 24-year-old business executive and son of a senior bureaucrat in Delhi, had apparently danced with Yadav's sister Bharati at a marriage party a few days ago.

The two confessed during their police remand on Thursday, sources said.

Meanwhile, the Delhi high court on Friday pulled up the UP police for failing to take prompt action in the case. It asked the police to complete in ten days a DNA test of a charred body recovered from Khurja, UP. The body is suspected to be that of Katara.

Ordering the Ghaziabad senior superintendent of police to file a status report on the progress of the investigation within a week, the bench also asked the police to record Bharati's statements.
