VHP-sponsored bandh begins in Ayodhya

Shops and business establishments in Ayodhya remained closed on Friday in response to a bandh call given by the VHP to protest the attack on passengers of Sabarmati Express in Godhra in Gujarat.

Thousands of para-military and police personnel have been deployed to maintain law and order.

Security has been beefed up particularly around the disputed site and approach roads leading to it.

No untoward incident has been reported so far from any part of the city.

The commissioner of Faizabad division A K Gupta said no vehicle was allowed to enter Faizabad and Ayodhya from adjoining areas, including Barabanki, Ambedkarnagar and Sultanpur districts.
