Al-Qaeda men kill 10 Pakistani soldiers

Suspected Al-Qaeda terrorists on Tuesday killed 10 Pakistani soldiers, including two officers, in a four-hour gun battle in the North-Western Frontier Province, an interior ministry official was quoted as saying.

The official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Pakistani soldiers came under fire during an early morning hunt for Al-Qaeda and Taliban fighters believed to be hiding near the border with Afghanistan.

He said the Pakistani soldiers launched a hunt near the town of Wana on tips from the Federal Bureau of Investigation that Al-Qaeda/Taliban operatives were in the area.

He said it wasn't clear if any of the attackers were killed, and added that Pakistani military helicopters were scouring the area for the attackers.
