Former chairman of the All-Parties Hurriyat Conference Syed Ali Shah Geelani would now remain confined within the four walls of a heavily fortified cell at Birsa Central Jail in Ranchi round-the-clock, jail authorities said on Thursday.
Earlier, Geelani, who was arrested in Srinagar under Prevention of Terrorism Act and brought to Ranchi, was allowed to go out of his cell for his daily ablutions, the authorities said.
"A toilet has been constructed inside the cell to further beef up security around the Hurriyat leader and it will be functional later on Thursday," a jail official said.
The official said Geelani takes food prepared by a common cook, who also cooks for former Bihar Animal Husbandry minister Chandra Dev Prasad Verma and a former IAS officer K Arumugam, who are under incarceration in connection with the fodder scam.
The official also said that a doctor comes to the jail for a daily check up of Geelani.
Geelani was arrested from Srinagar on June 9 following raids at his premises and of some others in Kashmir valley and New Delhi by the Income Tax department and the Jammu and Kashmir Police in connection with overseas funding of militant outfits through him.
