VHP demands enactment of law to resolve Ram temple issue

Ahead of its crucial 'Margdarshak Mandal' meeting, the Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Sunday asked the Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance government to enact a law to facilitate early construction of the Ram temple at Ayodhya.

The "NDA should know that Ram bhaktas (devotees) have put them in power. It is their responsibility to bring about a consensus and pass a law in Parliament to resolve the issue," VHP international working president Ashok Singhal told PTI.

Demanding immediate handing over of the undisputed land to the Ram Janambhoomi Nyas (Trust), Singhal claimed that all Hindus wanted the temple to be built regardless of whether they participated in the VHP's movement or not.

The VHP will decide its future course of action on the Ram temple issue at the meeting of its 'Margdarshak Mandal' (apex advisory body) comprising religious leaders beginning in Hardwar on June 22.

Meanwhile, in a bid to resolve the Ayodhya issue, Shankaracharya of Kamakoti Jayendra Saraswati will visit New Delhi on June 24 to hold talks with political leaders and prominent Hindu and Muslim leaders. The Shankaracharya's representative, Amar Nath Mishra, told PTI that the seer would also meet officials of the Ayodhya cell at the Prime Minister's Office during his three-day visit.

This will be the shankaracharya's second visit to Delhi in the last four months to find an amicable solution to the temple issue, Mishra said.
