Congress-NCP MLAs arrive in Mumbai

With just hours to go before a crucial trial of strength that will decide the fate of the Democratic Front government in Maharashtra, the Congress and NCP MLAs, who were despatched to Bangalore to forestall any attempts by the opposition to woo them, arrived in Mumbai late on Wednesday night.

The 105 Congress and NCP MLAs, who arrived by special aircraft, were directly taken to a five-star hotel in south Mumbai, Congress sources said.

During their week-long stay in Bangalore, the MLAs went around sight-seeing and also attended a strategy session for which Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and his deputy, Home Minister Chhagan Bhujbal, flew in specially from Mumbai.

The MLAs left in two batches from Bangalore after a formal farewell by Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna.
