Vajpayee will make an announcement on the Presidential nominee only after the consultations are completed, BJP leader and Union Minister M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters after Vajpayee held hour-long discussions with senior Cabinet colleagues.
Chandrababu Naidu, who spoke to the prime minister on Sunday night, is scheduled to arrive in Delhi on Monday evening to attend a meeting of NDA constituents and friendly parties to finalise the candidate.
However, Naidu declined to reveal the names of the probables under the government's consideration.
BJP sources said the name will be announced by the prime minister either on Monday night or Tuesday.
The sources denied that Chandrababu Naidu was insisting on Vice-president Krishna Kant's candidature.
Venkaiah Naidu also said that there was no delay on the part of the NDA in naming its nominee.
"The notification (for the Presidential poll) has not yet been issued. So, what is the hurry?" he asked, adding that notification will be issued only on Tuesday.
Sources said the prime minister, who had earlier held consultations with the Congress, Left parties and Samajwadi Party on the issue, would talk to their leaders again in a bid to evolve a consensus.
Among others who attended today's meeting at the prime minister's residence were Home Minister L K Advani, Defence Minister and NDA convenor George Fernandes, External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and Venkaiah Naidu.
