The counting of votes will take place on July 18.
"The Election Commission is mandated to ensure that the
election to the office of the President of India, which is the
highest elective office in the nation, must be free and fair and
the Commission is taking all necessary steps for discharging its
responsibility," Chief Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh told
reporters on Friday.
Announcing the poll schedule along with Election Commissioners
T S Krishnamurthy and B B Tandon, the CEC said that the
notification calling the election would be issued on June 11.
While the last date for filing of nominations is June 25, the nominations will be scrutinised the following day. The last date for withdrawal of candidature will
be June 28.
