NCP minister Sunil Tatkare resigns

Nationalist Congress Party MLA Sunil Tatkare, whose re-induction into the Democratic Front government in Maharashtra triggered a political crisis in the state, resigned on Thursday.

Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh told mediapersons in Bombay that he has accepted Tatkare's resignation.

The Peasants and Workers Party, which has five MLAs, had withdrawn support to the Deshmukh government protesting Tatkare's reinduction into the government.

The PWP accuses Tatkare of engineering the defeat of a PWP candidate in the election to the Raigad zilla parishad.

The PWP move was followed by a number of MLAs withdrawing support to the government bringing the Deshnukh government into minority.
