No decrease in infiltration along Jammu border: Top cop

The Inspector General of Jammu division, P L Gupta, said on Thursday that there is no 'significant indication of decrease in infiltration' from across the Line of Control and international border with Pakistan.

Gupta, whose operational area covers six districts south of Pir Panjal mountains, including four border districts of Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua and Jammu, said, "A very difficult security situation is prevailing in the region with the level of violence still high."

To stop cross-border infiltration, one cannot man each and every inch of the border with Pakistan, he said adding the borderline consists of dangerous terrain with sharp rocky peaks, coniferous woods and difficult ridgelines.

However, security forces and police are keeping a close watch over the border and try to eliminate militants who enter the area from across the border, he said.
