Your Views:There is just one answer. Impose President's rule - bring to justice all the rioteers - Hindus or Muslims and all the politicians and beauracrats who overtly or covertly took part in the carnage. Bring a level of decency in the state, check the activities of VHP, Bajrandal, ISI and regulate the madrassas. Relief and rehabilitation process of the riot victims must be properly completed. Then hold the elections and none of the politicians & their supporters who are charged with communal disturbance be allowed to stand for elections or for voting.

Who gives a damn to them?Anything the BJP/RSS does is to be opposed. For them the national priorities and concerns are only next to opposing the policies of BJP.If congress says it's ready for polls then let it campaign without a grudge or complaint.Hope BJP wins with a comfortable margin in Gujarat and elsewhere too and in the next general elections.

Your Views:Looking at the current situation I don't think that it is right time to do the election but I think it was right step to dismiss the Modi govt. there. State needs to be on President rule for around 6 more months till harmony is completely stored. If election happens right now in Gujrat, this will be great opportunity for BJP or Modi since it is going to be sure win for them, and that is what they want. I think after six months Election commission needs to work on the holding elections in Gujrat keeping in the view that people who are being charged for conducting riots are brought to justice.

Playing the trump of religion over politics is totally dangerous and how long it will last for some political parites to stay on in power. People should realize the fact that human beings are born free to choose any religion and belief as he has right to vote for any political party.

Your Views:Despite the fact that I think that polls are essential to a democracy, or the pillars on which democracy is raised upon, in Gujarat, the state governement sponsored the suppression and permitted the killing of minorities. Yes, those minorities did indeed initiate the bloody carnage in Gujarat, but has to dealt with by the respective governmental machinery....the governmental machinery that is supposed to protect the rights of it's citizens irrespective of the citizens' beliefs (as long as they are constitutional). And now, the same government that sponsored this terrorism is most likely to come to power again. No, this isn't democracy....this is mob-ocracy. A system where the majority, or the mob, have their way and suppress the minority. The founders of our constitution made in so that anybody, irrespective of one's beliefs, values, ideologies is protected under the constitution...but that isn't reality in Gujarat. In the event of the malfunctioning of the machinery of the State, or when the State blatantly violates the tenets of the constitution, the President must rule. Gujaratis should be ashamded of themselves...or at least the one's that associate themselves with fanaticism.

Your Views:we live in Ahmedabad's so called sensitive areas. today the riots are over, and by Gods grace since last two months no untoward incident has occured. We all are working properly and earning our livelihood. by the term "WE" I mean we Muslim and Hindu brothers together. even during riots none wanted the riots and none were involved. both congress and BJP were the instrumental parties in riots. today the sense of insecurity and instability can be put to rest, once the people's mandate is tested. just see, within hours of disbanding of the assembly, Viramgam saw stone pelting and riots, this surely points to the fact that congress does not want the elections now. Luckily or Unluckily, would the situation work out in favour of BJP, this can only be know after people's mandate. All political clamouring can be only laid to rest after polls. Mr.IK.Gujral, may comment on the new channels sitting in his swanky airconditioned office, but even to the opposition, I would say the ground situation is too different, & better that what they know or perceive. Given that drought is almost sure to happen this year, political uncertainity & thereby adminstrative uncertainity could only derail the economy

Your Views:BJP is the only political party which is sincere to bring good changes in India. The trouble in Gujarat is caused by Antisocial elements getting moral support by our Psuedo secular opposition. Your Views:Narendra Modi was sent to Gujrat with the sole objective of mobilising public opinion in favour of the BJP and took the sudden decision of dissolving Vidhan Sabha out fear of Shankersinh Vaghela who is considered capable of counter moves in order to derive benefit for the Congress. Eight months is a good period and Election Commission should take notice of the urgency with which the assembly has been dissolved. The State is hit hard by communal violance after the devastating earthquake and rehablitation of the masses should have been the urgency on the Govt. mind but since politics now is a profession, the Govt. is concentrating on gaining power for another term. EC should take every aspect into consideration before deciding the dates irrespective of the Govt. decision.

Your Views:Yeah. Polls are definitely a good solution. Ours is a democracy and if BJP returns to power we have to accept that Modi's handling of the situation is correct. So what should Modi be doing now? If he holds on to power, he is power hungry. If he resigns, he is "polarising" the society. If the BJP doesn't get to power, the media will be quick to point out that it was people's verdict. But if it does get to power, surely, it must be on account or rigging and other electoral mal-practices. May god, either provide some common sense to our double dealing and pseudo secular media or may god roast these numbskull journalists in hellfire forever. Tue Jul 23 07:05:32 2002

Your Views:The people will be the final arbiters in a democratic society. No amount of knee jerk liberalism is going to change that. All the rancor created by the media thru hype and obfuscation of facts have neither brought the necessary peace nor paved the path for harmony in the future. In all of this tamasha, such as Arundhathi Roy's less than honest portrayal, has raised far more questions about the role of the media and its activist role in further precipitating the riots in Gujarat. By dissolving the assembly, Modiji did what the opposition wanted and the opposition is running scared stiff to face the electorate ? Pray why ? If BJP is the guilty party as its being accused by the secularist elite wouldn't it necessarily follow, that the people of Gujarat are clever and responsible enough to throw the BJP out ? If on the other hand, a BJP victory would clearly expose and place the secularists where they rightfully belong : Liars Gallery. Either way, elections will pave for development and resolve the path to peace as has been indicated by Mr.Gill. Mr.Gill's judgement is far for more responsible than these armchair 'tinkering with the truth thinkers'. Let democracy rule!

Your Views:Riot relief and rehabilitation won't stop simply because the election commission has announced some poll dates. Congress is trying to create confusion in the mind of the Muslim brethren. The polls should be declared as soon as possible. The reason I emphasize this is because given the time, Congress will definitely try and engineer riots and murders and blame the BJP government. The BJP is still a novice and Congress is a party that is almost like a hardened criminal with a mile long rap sheet. The sooner the elections take place the lesser the motivation for Congress to disrupt the peace and quiet in Gujarat.

Your Views:Modi and the BJP is banking on some technical aspects of our constitution to show the world a wrong signal. It is exploitation of constitution. If he go for polls on the basis of his governance, or the development he brought to Gujarat, his premature dissolution of the assembly can have some moral rights.Instead Gujarat is now a mess under the BJP in terms of economic growth or development in any area. Understanding the ground realities from the previous polls in the state BJP intensionally created anarchy and religious polarization in the state and banking on that to remain in power. It is a pity figure of the indian politics which we indians cherish and boast. It is a fact that a major part of our population is illiterate and are lead or forced to do so by a few people who are literate technically. And religion can be used as an efficient compulsion. If BJP can win this game sure we can expect the same game in every part of India very soon which justifies others opinion that Gujarat is a lab for BJP which is their ideal state. So I think it is the duty of every Indian to oppose this move because people belonging to many relgions and cultures were living here in harmony for yrs.

Your Views:Yes as this will lay to rest all the nonsense propounded by the press that Modi has lost all his relevance, that he has communalised Gujarat etc. If the administration has indeed come to a halt and minorities are not safe, this would give a golden opportunity for them to vote Mr. Modi out. If he does come back to power, the secular press would go to town saying that this is on the back of dead bodies. Either way, it is easy to make Mr. Modi a loser. Give the man a break. The fact that Godhra happened and led to the riots has been downplayed. It has become fashionable, in press circles at least, to criticise Modi for all that happened in Gujarat after Godhra. What has been conveniently forgotten is that Gujarat has a history of communal violence and that worse riots took place in Hitendra Desai's time in 1969. Remember that the Congress was in power at that time. Further, my friends who have lived there for a long time tell me that the 'Ghetto mentality' started from then and there has been some rift between Hindus and Muslims ever since. Allow elections to take place. Gujarat is certainly not as bad as Punjab was when it voted in Narasimha Rao's time!
