There are enough safeguards in the Prevention of Terrorism Act (POTA) against its misuse on political grounds, Union Law Minister Jana Krishnamurthy said in Chennai on Saturday evening.
Arriving in his native city for the first time after being made a member of the Union Cabinet, the former BJP president recalled the parliamentary debates, demands and assurances in this regard.
However, he refused to comment on MDMK general secretary Vaiko's arrest under POTA.
Jana Krishnamurthy pointed out that Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani has already made it clear 'law and order is a state subject'.
"The Union home ministry, headed by Advani, is seized of the matter," he said.
