Domicile, reservation policies spark off violence in Jharkhand

The agitation against the domicile and reservation policies of the Jharkhand government has snowballed with the pro and the anti groups taking to streets and political parties asking the government to clarify its stand.

Both groups resorted to violence and protests at Dhanbad, Bokaro and Dumka on Tuesday and on Wednesday, effigies of Urban Development Minister Baccha Singh were burnt in the state capital Ranchi for his alleged support to the anti-domicile/reservation groups.

"The Babulal Marandi led-NDA government has created confusion among youths who are prepared to go to any extent for their rights. Policies should have been drafted after taking everyone into confidence," CPI-ML state unit chief Manoj Bhakt said.

The All Jharkhand Students' Union (AJSU), an NDA partner, has asked the government to invite various groups for talks to calm the tense atmosphere in the state.

"The government should immediately clarify its stand to prevent the current situation from getting out of hand," AJSU vice-president Praveen Prabhakar said.
