Pakistan authorities have arrested three people in connection with a series of deadly bomb attacks, including one in June on the US consulate in Karachi.
Major General Salahuddin, head of the paramilitary Pakistan Rangers, told a news conference that authorities had also seized a substantial quantity of weapons and explosives.
"We were able to nab three culprits. They are involved in the consulate bombing case," he said.
Twelve Pakistanis were killed and 20 seriously injured in the June 14 attack.
Salahuddin said those arrested were members of the Harkat-ul-mujahideen al-almi organisation, a group which backed the Taliban, ousted from power in neighbouring Afghanistan by a US-led coalition following the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York and Washington.
Salahuddin said the group had also been linked to a foiled assassination attempt on Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf earlier this year and to attacks on Western targets such as the McDonalds and Kentucky Fried Chicken food chains.
