The Congress party on Monday rejected former Union minister Ram Vilas Paswan's proposal for an alliance with the Lok Jan Shakti Party in Bihar.
Bihar Congress president Dr Shakeel Ahmed, who is also a minister in Rabri Devi Cabinet, told rediff.com, "In the present circumstances there is no possibility of forging any alliance with any party as that may disturb the party's relation with the Rashtriya Janata Dal in Bihar."
In Bihar the Congress party, with 12 MLAs, is sharing power with Laloo Prasad Yadav-led Rashtriya Janata Dal.
Ahmed, however, admitted that a majority of the Congress leaders in Bihar were in favour of forging a political alliance with Paswan.
"It is a matter of great pleasure that Paswan has come out of the communal alliance," said Ahmed, "but it does not mean that the Congress will part from RJD and form a combination with the LJP."
