Candidates, voters to get security
during J&K polls

The Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday said that candidates and voters would be provided security during the coming assembly elections.

"Candidates and voters will be provided adequate security so that they may exercise their right of franchise freely and fearlessly in the coming assembly polls," Director General of Police A K Suri said.

"Nobody will be allowed to disrupt and deny people through threats, posters and other intimidatory tactics their right to cast votes in elections going to be held in near future," he told the local Doordarshan channel.

On infiltration, he said it was still continuing though the scale had declined as compared to the corresponding period last year.

Suri said there were about 3,500 terrorists active in the state. Nearly sixty-five per cent of them were foreigners, he added.
