Trinamool not to join government unless bifurcation idea dumped

The Trinamool Congress on Saturday made it clear that it would not join the National Democratic Alliance government unless the decision to bifurcate the Eastern Railways was kept in abeyance.

"We never said the option to join the NDA government is closed. That option is always open. But Trinamool Congress will consider joining the ministry only if the bifurcation move is kept in abeyance," party leader and Kolkata Municipal Corporation Mayor Subrata Mukherjee said after the extended general council meeting of the Trinamool.

Targeting Railway Minister Nitish Kumar, he said the decision to bifurcate the Eastern Railways was not taken from an administrative angle but from a "narrow political and parochial point of view".

"If Kumar continues as the railway minister, Bengal's future is bleak," he said.

The Trinamool Congress leader alleged that Kumar had stalled many railway projects for West Bengal initiated by party chief Mamata Banerjee during her stint as railway minister.

He said the meeting adopted a unanimous resolution protesting the "divisive" policy of the railway minister and his department.
