Venkaiah to introduce new work culture in BJP

Newly appointed Bharatiya Janata Party president M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday asserted that he would make the party more vibrant and accountable by introducing a new 'work culture'.

He said he would reorganise the party set-up during the current fortnight, infusing more team spirit.

Ability and mobility would be the main criteria while choosing a new team, Naidu told a press conference in Hyderabad at the end of his three-day tour of Andhra Pradesh, his home state.

"BJP is not president-centric party. We will work like a team and accountability will be introduced at every level. There will be a self-assessment system for judging the performance of the workers," Naidu said.

Ministers would devote time for party work while discharging their official duties and explain to the workers the policies and achievements of the coalition government at the Centre, Naidu said adding, while the prime minister will be participating in party functions occasionally, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani has promised to spare time for the party once in a week.

Advising party state chiefs to attend to even the smallest issues promptly, he said, "We should enforce discipline and order in public life."

Coming down sharply on the opposition, Naidu said they are 'unable to digest the emergence of the BJP.'

"We have not come through manipulation or back door. Others are not reconciling to the fact that the BJP is leading a 23-party coalition government," Naidu said.

Naidu said the BJP is geared to face elections in Gujarat. Senior leader Arun Jaitley is in constant touch with the state leadership, he said.

"We are sure the party will return to power in Gujarat," Naidu said.
