Tamil Nadu Bharatiya Janata Party general secretary L Ganesan on Friday urged the state government not to take any "hurried action" against Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Vaiko for his pro-Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam speeches.
The J Jayalalithaa government had on Thursday booked Vaiko under the Prevention of Terrorism Act for voicing his support for the Tigers.
Ganesan reiterated that the BJP had ideological differences with the MDMK on the LTTE. "Though the MDMK is our ally in the ruling NDA at the Centre, we do not share their views on the LTTE."
Like Union Minister of State for Home I D Swami, Ganesan was not sure if speaking in support of a banned organisation like the LTTE was sufficient reason to take action against Vaiko.
Talking to newsmen in Virudunagar, Union Minister of State for Sports, Pon Radhakrishnan, wondered if Vaiko's speech challenged India's sovereignty in any way.
Vaiko's controversial public speech at Thirumangalam did not violate parliamentary norms, he added.
