A senior functionary of the outlawed People's War, Kuntham Mallaiah alias Sudheer alias Latchanna, has been booked under the Prevention of Terrorism Act by the Andhra Pradesh Police.
Mallaiah, a district committee member from Khammam, is the first PW leader to be booked under the POTA.
The police said that Mallaiah was in charge of 'military services activity' of the outlawed organisation.
Villagers of Krishnasagar hamlet, under Burgampahad police station limits, nabbed him on June 26, when he was moving along with three others on the village outskirts under suspicious circumstances, the police said.
The villagers caught the four persons presuming them to be petty thieves and handed them over to the police.
During investigations, the police came to know that Mallaiah was district committee member and a top guerrilla functionary of PW, who carried a reward of Rs 500,000 on his head.
Hailing from Muttaram village near Manthani in Karimnagar district, Mallaiah has been in the PW for well over a decade.
Khammam Superintendent of Police V V Srinivasa Rao recommended to the district administration to give the Rs 500,000 reward on the PW leader's head to Krishnasagar gram panchayat.
