Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on Thursday virtually ruled out any consultation with the opposition on the candidature for the Vice-President's post, saying that discussions would be held only with the National Democratic Alliance partners.
"There is no need for consultation with any other party. We will only discuss with the NDA," Advani told the television channel Aaj Tak.
An NDA meeting will be held soon after the Monsoon Session of Parliament begins on July 15, he said.
To a question if senior BJP leader Bhairon Singh Shekhawat will be his party's candidate, he said, "It will be a NDA candidate."
Stating that the NDA's strength would be the same as in the case of the joint sitting on Prevention of Terrorism Bill, he pointed out that for the Vice-President's election the electoral college comprised only the two Houses of Parliament.
The electoral college for the presidential election also includes legislative assemblies and councils.
