Four suspected Al Qaeda terrorists were killed in an encounter with Pakistani guards near the Afghan border on Wednesday, reports said.
Two security personnel and an intelligence official were also killed in the skirmish, the reports said.
The incident occurred at a checkpoint near Kohat, around 75 km southwest of Peshawar. As the guards approached the vehicle in which the suspected terrorists were travelling, they came under fire.
A gun battle ensued, officials said, adding that three suspects were killed inside the vehicle, with the fourth falling to bullets while trying to run away.
The troops also recovered explosives in the van and bomb disposal experts were called in to defuse them, the reports said.
Local authorities said the slain men were of Arab appearance. However, it could not be confirmed if they were Al Qaeda activists.
"We are conducting an inquiry and it takes time to establish the real identities of the dead," the official told BBC.
The suspected terrorists were coming from Wana, a remote region near the Afghan border where 10 Pakistani soldiers were killed last month in a gun battle with Al Qaeda operatives, the reports said.
