"How can they [the Naxalites] continue the armed struggle and have discussions...at least they should say they will stop it," he said when asked if the peace negotiations between the PW and the government would be affected in the wake of the outfit's demand that there should be a ceasefire even as discussions were on.
He said the police would continue to maintain law and order and "anyone with weapons will be dealt with firmly".
Dismissing suggestions that there were any fake encounters in the state, he said, "No one can violate the law. How can their armed struggle get support?"
The PW had on Tuesday threatened to review its stand on final negotiations for peace and demanded a judicial inquiry into the encounter in which four Naxalites were killed near Karimnagar.
Stating that the incident had made it clear that the government was not going to stop combing operations, encounters and other repressive measures with a view to scuttle peace talks, it demanded that the government declare a ceasefire and name a supervisory committee to create a conducive atmosphere for talks.
After three rounds of negotiations with the PW representatives, the government has agreed to go in for final negotiations with the outfit on July 20.
