Pakistan may ban Al Badar,
Harkat-ul-Jehad too: Report

Pakistan is planning to ban three more militant outfits active in Kashmir -- Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, Al Badar and Harkat-ul-Jehad-e-Islami -- as part of its continued crackdown on extremist organisations.

The government, which has already banned two militant outfits active in Kashmir - Lashkar-e-Tayiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad - is holding high-level discussions to ban several more terrorist organisations and an official announcement in this connection could come in the next few days, Pakistan newspaper reported.

There have been reports of police arresting leaders and activists of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen and Al Badar. The residence of Harkat-ul-Mujahideen leader Fazlur Rehman Khalil was raided recently but he managed to slip away.

President Pervez Musharraf on Wednesday said so far 1,957 militants have been arrested and 615 offices of militant outfits sealed.

Meanwhile, media reports said police continued their operations against banned militant groups.

According to a province-wise break-up published in daily Jung, 735 militants were arrested and 336 offices sealed in Punjab. In Sindh, 852 activists have been arrested and 180 offices sealed.

In North West Frontier Province, 337 activists have been arrested and 81 offices sealed and in Baluchsitan, 18 activists arrested and three offices sealed.
