Sharing India's concern over cross-border terrorism, members of the United States House of Representatives on Friday deplored militancy, saying those killing innocents cannot be branded as freedom fighters.
"Only extremists take lives of innocent people and they cannot be referred to as freedom fighters," a delegation-led by Congresswomen of the US House of Representatives Shelley Berkley and Janice Schakowsky said in Mumbai on Friday.
The US delegation paid a courtesy call on Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh at the secretariat, an official release said.
The delegation expressed concern that terrorism was posing a challenge to both the US and India.
Deshmukh made a plea to Senate members that the Bush administration should put pressure on Pakistan forcing it to abandon the path of terrorism.
