Ultras attack army unit in Poonch, three killed in Jammu

Three militants attacked the army's Animal Transport Company unit in the border town of Poonch in Jammu division, but no loss of life or damage to property was reported, official sources said in Jammu on Wednesday.

Two militants in police uniform and another in khaki fired indiscriminately at the army unit on Tuesday night without causing any damage, the sources said.

Later, the militants escaped under the cover of darkness, the sources said, adding the ultras were chased by security forces and trapped in adjoining Bench village.

Meanwhile, a suspected militant and police constable were killed while they were on their way to Gandoh tehsil of Doda district on Tuesday evening, police sources said.

The sources said the militant was being brought to the police station in Gandoh when he tried to escape. In the process, he fell into a deep gorge along with a constable, killing both.

Meanwhile, a Special Police Officer (SPO) whose tongue and ear were chopped off by some unidentified militants in Poonch district on January 7, succumbed to his injuries in the Government Medical College hospital in Jammu on Tuesday.
