BSF lays mines, IEDs along LoC, border

In a bid to check infiltration of Pakistan-based militants, BSF troops have laid mines and improvised explosive devices along the Line of Control and international border in Jammu and Kashmir.

"Apart from stepping up defence preparations, work on laying of mines and IEDs has been taken up by army and BSF troops in nearly 300-500 meters area from zero line on LoC and international border to stop infiltration of terrorists," official sources said on Thursday.

Almost 60 per cent of mine-laying work has been completed in Hiranagar, Ramgarh, Samba, R S Pura and Akhnoor areas along the border in Jammu-Kathua sector, the sources said.

Nearly 30 to 40 per cent work has been completed in Poonch and Rajouri sector, they added.

"Not even a single militant should be able to cross over to this side safely from this mined strip along the LoC and international border in J&K," the sources said

The mine laying exercise is continuing in areas falling in Pallanwala-chicken neck belt, Noushera, Laam, Sunderbani, Bhawani, Kalal, Jangarh, Chingus, Kerni, Balakote, Krishnagati, Bhimbergali, Gambhir Mighla, Mendhar and Poonch areas in J&K, the sources said.
