BJP blames Congress councillors for Godhra attack

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday accused Congress councillors from Godhra of being responsible for the attack on the Sabarmati Express on Wednesday.

"Police have arrested two Congress councillors who planned the entire attack," party spokesman V K Malhotra said.

"This is the worst kind of incident in the annals of Indian history and the entire thing has been pre-planned," he added.

Malhotra said the Congress, instead of demanding action against those responsible for the attack, was demanding a ban on the Vishwa Hindu Parishad. "This is very shameful," he said.

He said that when Graham Staines had been murdered, everyone had condemned the incident, but "when so many people belonging to a particular community are attacked and killed, the Congress does not react strongly to it".

Congress spokesman S Jaipal Reddy, however, refuted both claims of the BJP.
