VHP calls for countrywide bandh to protest Godhra killings

A belligerent Vishwa Hindu Parishad on Thursday called for a countrywide bandh in protest against the killings of karsevaks in Godhra.

The outfit also sought a referendum on whether the government should hand over the undisputed land in Ayodhya to it.

VHP leader Onkar Bhave charged the central government with 'criminal negligence' on the issue and said there was nothing wrong in the opposition's demand for Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's resignation.

Equating the present government with Ravan raj, the VHP leader charged Home Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani with 'talking big and doing nothing'.

Educational institutions and essential services have been exempted from Friday's bandh.
