While the Bharatiya Janata Party is yet to recover from the debacle in the assembly polls held recently, its government in Goa is reportedly in favour of dissolving the state assembly.
Some cabinet ministers and party sources said that a decision in this regard was taken at a hurriedly convened cabinet meeting on Wednesday morning.
The decision was aimed at pre-empting the plans of some disgruntled elements within the BJP to split and form an alternate government with the Congress, they said.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is yet to confirm the news.
However, it is learnt that he will be meeting Governor Mohammad Fazal at the Raj Bhavan to propose dissolution of the Goa assembly.
He is expected to address a press conference later in the afternoon.
Goa is one of the four states where the BJP is in power. The others are Gujarat, Himachal Pradesh and Jharkhand.
