The US Central Intelligence Agency has warned that the advantage the United States has enjoyed in the past over spaceborne technology is fast eroding with more and more sophisticated players like India and China entering the arena.
"The unique spaceborne advantage that the US has enjoyed over the past few decades is eroding as more and more countries, including China and India, field increasingly sophisticated reconnaissance satellites," CIA Director George Tenet told the Senate Intelligence Committee during a testimony on Wednesday.
India had last year launched the Technology Experiment Satellite, with supposedly defence applications. The TES was equipped with cameras that could take pictures of objects on the ground with a resolution of up to one metre and could even map moving objects.
The launch demonstrated India's superior capabilities as very limited countries have such technologically advanced satellites.
