New e-mail says Pearl killed

CNN on Friday said it received an e-mail from the abductors of the Wall Street Journal correspondent, saying he had been killed.

CNN spokeswoman Christa Robinson said: "We did receive an e-mail reporting that Daniel Pearl was killed."

Earlier, another report quoting a Pakistani police officer had said the kidnappers of Daniel Pearl had demanded $ 2 million within 36 hours for his safe release.

The report said an anonymous caller also demanded the release of the former Taliban Ambassador to Pakistan Abdul Salam Zaeef in a call made to the US consulate.

Steve Goldstein, spokesman for Dow Jones, which owns the Journal, said: "We've seen the latest reports, and we remain hopeful they are not true."
