Bandh in Srinagar to protest against Parliament attack case judgment

Normal life was paralysed in Srinagar on Friday following a bandh called by the Human Rights Forum to protest against death sentences handed to three persons in the Parliament attack case.

Shops, business establishments and educational institutions remained closed in response to the bandh called by HRF chairman Mohammad Ahsan Untoo and supported by various separatist, militant and political groups.

Public transport was off the roads though some private vehicles were seen plying in Srinagar.

However, the Kashmir University decided to go ahead with the ongoing examinations.

Security had been tightened at all public places, including mosques, following reports of that protest rallies would be taken out after the Friday prayers.

Reports from Baramulla, the native place of the trio, indicated that the bandh call would receive widespread support in the district.

Additional police personnel have been posted near all mosques, sensitive government and semi-government installations, to prevent untoward incidents, sources said.
