Delhi Police chief updates Advani on Shivani case

The Delhi Police Commissioner Radhey Shyam Gupta is regularly updating Deputy Prime Minister Lal Kishenchand Advani on the progress in the Shivani Bhatnagar murder case, home ministry sources told rediff.com.

But the Delhi Police insist that it does not report to any one about the progress made in the case.

The sources said that Gupta has met Advani twice in the last ten days, once before the deputy prime minister left for a four-day tour of the United Kingdom, followed by one on his return.

But the sources refused to confirm or deny whether the prime minister's office had called for a report from the commissioner of police.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Mathur and Mohit Mathur, counsels for senior IPS officer R K Sharma, the key suspect in the case, refused to divulge the line of defence that they would take up in the Delhi high court, when the court resumes the hearing of Sharma's bail petition on Wednesday.

"We will seek answers from the Delhi Police," Mohit Mathur said.

But Mathur refused to comment whether the defence counsels would question the Delhi Police's claim that it has in its possession documents, which could prove Sharma's motive for the murder.
