EC allots time slots on DD, AIR for J&K poll campaign

The Election Commission on August 24 announced a time schedule for various political parties for free use of Doordarshan and All India Radio for campaigning in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls.

The Bharatiya Janata Party, Bahujan Samaj Party, Communist Party of India, CPI-Marxist, Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and National Conference have been given a total of 635 minutes on the state-run television and radio.

A base time of 45 minutes will be given to each national party and recognised state party uniformly on Doordarshan and AIR, the commission said.

The Election Commission had begun this practice of giving recognized political parties free use of television and radio for campaigning in the 1998 general election, which was extended to the assembly polls in various states subsequently.
